Learn to Surf in Safety
These pointers should help you surf in safety, just use common sense, and remember the sport does have dangers.
Always learn to surf at a beach patrolled by Surf Life Savers or Lifeguards.
Familiarise yourself with the flags and signs on the beach that indicate safe areas.
Never surf after drinking alcohol or taking other drugs.
Never surf within half an hour of eating a meal.
If you are unsure about conditions ask a Surf Life Saver or Lifeguard.
Never run and dive in the water.
If you get in trouble in the water stay calm and signal for help. Wait for assistance.
Float with a current or rip, don't fight it. Save your energy and signal for assistance.
